Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur (GMU) is a pioneering hub of educational research and enhanced learning in western Odisha. Established in the year 1944 as Sambalpur College and then Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College, it got recognition as Gangadhar Meher University on 30 May 2015.

This University has witnessed many intellectuals blooming out of its nest. One such shining personality is Dr. Narayani Panda, a renowned gynaecologist and obstetrician of Sambalpur.

Ray of Hope

Born in Cuttack, her veterinarian father did not have enough financial resources to fund her education as well as the 10 of her siblings. Narayani Panda had studied science at the institution. During those days, the college provided her with a monthly scholarship of ₹25 to pursue her MBBS course at SCB Medical College Cuttack. Dr. Panda passed with flying colours from SCB to become a gynaecologist and obstetrician.

Dr. Panda gave back to her Alma Mater with a handsome cheque of Rs 30 Lakh.

The Gangadhar Meher University then pledged for a project named Dr. Narayani Panda Centre for IT Learning Skill with Rs 25 Lakh to Mo College Abhijan. Consequently, the university received a total amount of Rs 75 Lakhs after the inclusion of 2x matching grant from the Government of Odisha.

Under the project, Gangadhar Meher University has undertaken developmental activities like civil & electrical work, computer systems, data network, CCTV and PA system, Online UPS, etc. These facilities will be installed in the IT hub for the high-end learning purpose of IT students.

Mo College Abhijan is a flagship initiative under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik which aims to connect the Alumni with their Alma Mater focusing on giving back to their College/University. The initiative helps in revitalizing the landscape of higher education with next level facilities for education.
